Q. Do licenses have an expiration date? Do they need to be updated?
No, they do not. Both the default free license and the purchased license are valid forever.
Q. Do Virtual DSM License (vDSM) licenses need to be updated?
The default free license has no usage or update limit, while the purchased Virtual DSM (vDSM) license has three years of software updates. After the license period expires, you can continue to use it, but you will need to apply a new license code to continue updating vDSM.

Q. How many Virtual DSM (vDSM) can my Synology NAS run?
First, check here if your Synology NAS supports the Virtual Machine Manager (VMM) package, because Virtual DSM (vDSM) needs VMM to run. The maximum supported number of vDSM for the latest models can be found on the vDSM license page on the official website. The vDSM support number for all models can be found on the Synology website > Download Center > Select NAS model > Documents > Product Specification. The documentation addresses the recommended maximum number of vDSM. Please note that Synology NAS that supports vDSM comes with 1 free default vDSM.
Q. Does Virtual DSM (vDSM) come with free camera licenses?
Please note that Surveillance Station on vDSM does not come with the default two free camera licenses and must be purchased separately.

Yes, vDSM’s MailPlus Server comes with 5 free account licenses, just like the physical NAS.
Q. Are licenses limited to certain regions?
